It seems from reading here that the outputs (when set to control a relay) supply a ground signal, not a voltage, is this correct? The schematics in the manual are confusing to me, maybe it's an Australian thing, but I don't understand what the rectangle with the diagonal line through it is supposed to be that they show the aux. outputs connecting too.
For a tach connection, that puts out an actual signal right? |

yes, outputs supply ground and are only supposed to supply 1 amp or less so you need to use it to turn on a relay for most things you want to run.
The box with the diagonal line is a relay. If you use a bosch style relay you want the output on the 85 of the relay,
The tach output is not a direct signal, it needs a pull up resistor to turn the ground pulses from the output set as tach into a sine wave. This is how to do that, |

OK, that makes sense. I just couldn't figure out what that rectangle was supposed to be. That's NOT the symbol for a relay I'm used to seeing. Now, if the symbol looked more like what you have posted here, I'd have known right away.
So, even the tachometer output is just a short to ground, interesting.
Edit:
Hah, RMS, small world. I just looked at your profile and noticed you (or your company at least) tuned the Stinger on my friend Tom's Subaru powered Manxter. He actually just sent me a copy of his map today as I'm having cold running issues on it and I wanted to take a look at it to see how you solved his problems.
I wish I lived anywhere near you guys (I"m in Western Pennsyvlania), then I'd just bring it in to you. Tom has nothing but praise for the work you did on his. |

Yeah, the outputs can only pulse ground. So any signal you want them to output that needs to be a sine wave or go + in any way needs a pull up resistor.
Good to hear Tom was happy with our work! |

Have another question for you... My Stinger has a Serial Number is US461171907. According to the EMS websites, serial numbers ST44XX and up are the current version that is supposed to support all version 4 software features. However, the Post Start settings don't seem to be doing anything on mine. If I try to load them in, then close the software, reopen it and 'read from the ecu' those fields end up being blank. I also noticed that I cannot modify them while the Stinger is hooked up to my laptop. Last, I noticed that the ECU version listed within the software while the Stinger is hooked up is 4.4.1.7. All of this leads me to believe that I don't actually have the latest Stinger firmware and cannot currently support the Post Start feature.
What do you think? |

When the laptop connects to the ecu it will show the version that the ecu is running in the bottom right corner. I have a feeling your firmware is outdated. Post start was a part of a firmware update.
